The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

a.k.a. Diarios de motocicleta. we started watching this a couple of months ago over at Virginia and Dave's. we tried to get it from Netflix but for some reason it had an insanely long wait on it. so we finished watching the final hour of the movie this morning.

the movie's about the young Argentinian-Cuban rebel leader Che Guevara. it's when he's in his early 20's though and hasn't yet even started thinking about leading a rebellion. well, he starts to think about it a little bit during his travels with his best friend. they're both young doctors trying to have an adventure along with learning a little bit about practicing medicine in the field. it's a pretty cool story. it moves a bit slowly, but gives you some insight into the mind of Guevara. it's actually pretty sad at the end of the movie when they remind you that he was killed by the CIA in the 1960s.

the thing i will always remember the most about this movie's history i think is what happened at the 2005 Oscars. Jorge Drexler who wrote and sang the song "Al Otro Lado Del Ro" on the soundtrack was not allowed to sing his song at the Oscars. he then threw it back in the Academy's face by singing it a capella when he accepted the Oscar for Best Song, instead of giving an acceptance speech.

oh, and thanks to all of my new readers who have found their way to the diary from my banner ads on Diaryland. and a special thanks to those of you have been suggesting movies for me to watch. i'm slowly working on making those happen. some of them i've seen and just haven't ever actually written reviews for. keep watching and they'll show up soon!
