V for Vendetta (2005)

9 cover

ok, so Jill and i went to see this a couple of weeks ago and i finally decided to write about it. i love this movie! Jill didn't like it too much. it's currently on the top 250 list of the IMDb though, so obviously a lot of people agree w/ me. :)

this movie is based on a comic book from the 80s and is about a terrorist named "V" who wears a Guy Fawkes mask while trying to overthrow a corrupt futuristic British government. the movie stars Natalie portman as Evey and Hugo Weaving as V.

i thought this movie had excitement, wonderful acting, suspense, great special effects, and i really enjoyed all of the homages to The Count of Monte Cristo. the story really pulls a lot from that book and it's great that they honored it openly like they did. there were only a couple of elements of the plot that bothered me, such as the torture of Evey by V himself and the flashback scenes to when V was originally being tested on. the rest of it was top notch.

has everyone seen Natalie Portman's rap from Saturday Night Live? i love this. you have to see it.
