Amadeus (1984)

i love this film. 10/10. Best Picture for 1984 and 7 other Oscars. number 77 on the IMDb today. a couple of my friends had been wanting to see this for about a month or so. it's a great film to have on your "to see" list. even better to see it though. i think i've owned a copy of this film since i was 14 or so, so i've seen it quite a few times. it's hard to find something original to say about it, but i'll try.

if you didn't know, it's the story of Mozart. Amadeus was his middle name. it's told in flashbacks from the perspective of Antonio Salieri. he was a contemporary composer who blamed himself for "killing" Mozart. this movie is 3 hours long and it needs the entire 3 hours. i didn't really feel like it was that long this time through.

obviously the music is exquisite. wonderful set decoration, costumes, acting, the works. they also used all natural lighting which looks perfect and makes the story and film more believable. another thing i love about this film is the fact that the two male leads are scarce in film history. Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham were both nominated for Best Actor for this film. F. Murray Abraham got the award, but Tom Hulce was equally good i think. you hardly ever see these two in big films and they usually only play supporting roles when you do see them. it makes you feel like they really are their characters because you're not too familiar with the actors.
