Pete's Dragon (1977)

what else came out in 1977? that's right. Star Wars. and what does this film have to do with Star Wars? nothing.

why did i pick this to watch? well, a couple of my friends decided a few days ago to have an intense discussion over dinner at Chili's about Pete's Dragon. my new friend Lura and I happened to be sitting in on that discussion and were trying to think of something to do this afternoon. thus, Pete's Dragon.

what was the discussion about you ask? well one was wondering whether the boy's name was Pete or if the dragon's name was. you can probably tell from the title and a little deduction that Pete is the name of the boy. Elliot is the name of his dragon. another part of the discussion pertained to whether or not Elliot was "real." in the movie, all sorts of people saw him. he physically effected objects and people. he was really there, he could just choose to be invisible when he wanted to. he wasn't just a figment of Pete's imagination. he was actually real.

what did i think of the film? 6/10. i didn't watch this movie when i was a kid and had only seen a couple of parts of it before. it had some interesting special effects but many were really badly done. i think it also is bad for me to watch a kids movie after i've been watching so many adult-oriented films over the past couple of years. i'm out of the swing of it and felt uncomfortable. especially when they started singing about platonic love.

wonderful events today. other than good times with friends, i started my new library job. i don't work at a branch that has an audio/visual section, but our county does have a huge collection downtown that i can check out from. it normally costs a dollar to rent videos downtown. perks of working at my branch: i get to check the films out for free, and i can also have a courier bring them to me. i don't even have to travel to pick them up. i can just get them at work. i also can get 5 at a time and keep them for a week at a time. they have a collection of over 9000 films. goodbye rental fees.
