Das Boot (1981)

a.k.a. The Boat. it's one of the few on the imdb top 100 that i still had not seen. it's ranked number 42 today. it was a decent film. 7/10. i watched the director's cut dvd over at the library media center. and the damn dvd has a default setting to where you watch it dubbed in English with no subtitles. i had to keep telling the guy controlling the player for me that i hate dubbing. switch it to German with English subtitles! they never understand...

so the director's cut is 209 minutes. loooonnnnggg. it was ok though. lots of great tension and an interesting take on the German u-boats' situation in WWII. maybe the submariners were just pawns for the nazis, and weren't really just horrible assassins with no hearts.

i've heard this is the most expensive movie ever made by Germany. and the most popular overseas. maybe because it had the biggest budget? i hate it when Americans only like blockbusters. they should not talk to me about movies.
