Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)

i remembered this being quite funny when Colin and i saw this when it first came out 5 years ago. i think Colin has sort of decided over the years that it wasn't so funny and now i think he's right. although one part i think i will always contend is hilarious. when the two guys are apprehended by the police, the police are going to do the traditional "make 'em talk" routine. instead the "muscle" cop brings in a dummy and starts beating the hell out of him. one of the guys yells "Stop it! He doesn't know anything!"

so what's this movie about you ask? two guys lose their car and they get in trouble with their girlfriends. they also almost get beaten up. and these space people all try to figure out where some device is...which they think the two main guys have. there are also a lot of sex jokes and bad wordplay. i guess i enjoyed that sort of thing a lot more when i was 20 years old. the trivia for the IMDb says that this script was originally an idea for a Beavis & Butthead live action movie. wow, that might actually have been worse.

Jill and i were surprised to see a young Jennifer Garner (from Alias) playing one of the girlfriends. it was a really stupid role for her but i guess it was good money and someone probably noticed her in the role. i can't possibly see her doing anything like this now.

while trying to find information about the dummy i was talking about earlier, i was reminded of how the dummy looked like these "decoy husband" dummies they had in the mid 90s. you could buy your fake husband from a catalog and sit him on your couch if you were a single woman. that way if a robber or whatever came past, they would see the man sitting inside and think twice about breaking into your home. Saturday Night Live did a classic parody of this with their hilarious "Home Security Decoys" skit in 1996.
