Night on Earth (1991)

this was a suggestion that was sent in a few weeks ago by my German friend Anne. she recommended another movie by this same director, Jim Jarmusch, so i'll be watching that one as well. as soon as i can find a copy of it that isn't broken. i've actually had a couple of people recommend some Jim Jarmusch movies to me in the past months. he's apparently done some oddball stuff, but it's still good.

this movie contains five different short films you might say. each one involves a taxi cab ride and an interesting driver and some interesting fares. each cab is in a major city somewhere in the world. Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki. probably my favorite is the Roman cab ride which stars Roberto Benigni as the driver. it's hilarious. he picks up a priest (who he keeps referring to as a bishop even though he's not) and decides that he needs to confess his sins to this priest who doesn't seem to want to hear it. his sins are all about his first experiences with sex. he talks about having sex with pumpkins, sheep, and his sister-in-law.

Roberto Benigni is a hilarious entertainer. he always seems to me like someone who wouldn't be funny, but he really is. i wonder if that Pinocchio (2003) film that he's in is any good. it looks idiotic, but maybe it would actually be good with him being in it.

so overall this is a very entertaining movie and it's not just funny. it also teaches you about lots of cultures and different types of lifestyles. good stuff.

i hope everyone likes the new "Natalie version" of the diary. let me know if anything is showing up strangely/incorrectly on your browser. remember i'm doing this on a mac. so it may be a few days before all the kinks are worked out.
