Nadine (1987)

one day during UT's Spring Break, Greg and i were talking about bad movies that we love even though we realize they're bad. he mentioned this one. i can't really remembering getting any other ones out of him. i later tried to talk him into realizing that Nothing But Trouble (1991) was hilarious and a great bad movie. wow, i've just noticed it's number 80 on the IMDb's Bottom 100 list. oh well, i still love that terrible movie. anyway, i decided to see Greg's one foul passion, Nadine.

it stars Kim Basinger and Patrick Swayze...no wait Jeff Bridges. i'm sorry, i was looking at the cover art which shows a drawing of Kim Basinger with Patrick Swayze. well, that's who it looks like at first glance. it's supposed to be Jeff Bridges. and Rip Torn does an excellent and hilarious job as the bad guy in this.

but Nadine is a light hearted comedy that takes place in the 50s in what is presumably Texas. she recently separated from her husband Vernon (Bridges) and got involved with a photographer who took some naughty pictures of her. she tricks Vernon into helping her sneak into his place to steal them, but they nearly get caught and end up accidentally getting a folder filled with maps that could lead to a ton of money for Vernon if he can work out a real estate deal. the only problem is he's not too sharp most of the time. they end up getting a bit over their heads and some violence and death threats start coming from Boss Pope (Torn). i guess you could say this is like a low budget action movie with a lot of comedy. very few special effects, but a lot of life and death situations.

Rip Torn is hilarious in a couple of scenes. he does a great job of just doing random things with his country accent. he'll be talking completely coherently and then say something that's just gibberish, and everyone continues on like it was nothing. good stuff. sort of a la The Whole Nine Yards (2000).

it's good acting all around, and it's a somewhat funny film. it's very short though. only 83 minutes. i could've stood a few more minutes of it.
