Thomas est Amoreux (2000)

Leslie grabbed this one off the shelf when she, Clay, and i were at movie gallery the other day. she told me i needed to watch it and that it was good, so i did.

it's a film almost completely experienced in a first person perspective. we watch it through the eyes of Thomas Thomas, an agoraphobic. that means he's deathly afraid of being outside of his apartment and can't ever have anyone come inside either. the film takes place in the future at some point and apparently in France because everyone speaks French in the film. Thomas communicates with everyone by video telephone and in virtual reality. there's a lot of him having virtual sex with a computer program girl. he also is forced to join a dating club by his psychoanalyst.

interesting film. it really makes you think about a couple of types of life that you most likely are not very familiar with. it makes you think about being an agoraphobe, as well as living in a society where the majority of communication is done by a sort of visual telephone. i'm sure this will become a lot more common over the next 10-15 years or so as we advance with Internet access and high speed data transfers. hopefully i can somehow be involved in that with my profession. but we'll see.
