I Love You, I Love You Not (1996)

the Clair Danes weekend continues. be sure to hit the "previous movie" link. i rather wish i had picked out The Mod Squad (1999) or something else i hadn't seen. this was an unfortunate film.

taking place during these painstaking 80 minutes is a film about a girl who is attending a New York prep school. she goes to spend a few days with her grandmother who was in a concentration camp. during those few days they talk a lot about her experience there, and there's also a failed romance between Claire Danes and Jude Law. he's the most popular boy and becomes momentarily enfatuated with the shy, strange girl in class.

the writing for this film is quite bad, as are the direction and cinematography. there really isn't any chemistry between anyone onscreen. all of the interactions between Jeanne Moreau and Claire Danes were awkward and weird. partially because of lack of chemistry, partially because of bad writing. and i didn't think Jeanne Moreau fit well with her character at all. she looks and sounds too rough to be the sweet old grandmother character she was trying to be. oh and the editing and soundtrack were noticeably bad as well.

i guess Claire Danes and Jude Law who are both exquisite actors did well in the film, but you really couldn't tell with them being surrounded by a lot of garbage. don't waste your time on this one. i refuse to talk about it any further.

oh, you'll notice a new image in the java applet of Patrick McGoohan. by request...
