Se7en (1995)

and Gwyneth Paltrow weekend continues with Se7en. perhaps the best David Fincher film yet (although Fight Club (1999) is also excellent). it's currently number 61 on the IMDb's top 100. i have also seen this one before a few times. i just felt like borrowing it and watching it again when i saw it on the shelf at Leslie's house.

so it's true that Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't have a huge role in this picture, but she's essential nonetheless and adds something wonderful to the film itself. much in the same way that Kevin Spacey does. this is also her first really noticable role in movies too. unless you count Hook (1991) where she played young Wendy. just in case you don't know, this film mostly focuses on Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. so with a cast like that, you know it's going to be a good film.

i have to say that pretty much everything in this film is flawlessly done. great direction, acting, art direction, cinematography, and the music is perfect. the music helps to add this horror film feeling to the movie. it's basically a mystery/crime film where the two detectives are trying to catch an insane murderer who is killing people in ways that relate to the seven deadly sins which each victim is committing one of. but the music, art direction, and use of low lighting really help you to feel like it's actually a horror film of sorts. it's all just wonderfully done.
