North by Northwest (1959)

hmmm...Leslie has suggested that i need to instate a system to where everyone can see the rating of the film before they read through the entire review. maybe something visual? that's what i'm thinking. look for it coming soon i suppose.

so of course i've seen North by Northwest previously, it's just that a few of my friends wanted to watch it, and i can never turn down an opportunity to introduce someone to this great piece of film history. it's got everything you could possibly want. romance, excitement, action, suspense, comedy. just everything. and that's why it gets a 10/10. you'll find this one on the top of the AFI list, and it's number 21 today on the IMDb. and i'm sure you already know, Best Picture for 1959 was Ben-Hur (1959).

this film stars Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill, an advertising exec mistaken as a government spy by some foreign minions. he chases the "real" spy all over the country and gets chased by just about everyone (police, thugs, beautiful women, etc.) it's really one of Alfred Hitchcock's finest.

my personal favorite of course is Rear Window (1954) with Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart, but you can't help loving Cary Grant in this role. the supporting cast is also flawless in this film. wow, Eva Marie Saint plays the very daring romantic interest in this film. you probably won't see her in much else except On The Waterfront (1954). that's a classic too. although i don't like it nearly as much as North by Northwest.

so i guess i'm not too emphatic in this entry, but it's an amazing film and i don't really see how anyone could not like it. Cary Grant is the man.
