Kramer vs. Kramer (1979)

wow, my film & american culture class actually allowed me to see a movie i hadn't seen previously. not only that, but it was another best picture. what are the chances??? this time...Kramer vs. Kramer (1979). This movie was a winner of The Big Five. Well no, not technically. what are The Big Five? you may ask...well these are the most coveted Oscars. Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Director. only 3 movies have ever won The Big Five. It Happened One Night (1934), One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975), and The Silence of The Lambs (1991). Kramer vs. Kramer technically didn't win The Big Five because Meryl Streep got Best Supporting Actress and not Leading.

i give this film a 7/10. it's good but just doesn't compare to the 3 other movies i just mentioned. why then did it win so many awards? i say there was lack of competition in the industry in 1979. the only other recognized movie that came out was Apocalypse Now (1979), which i detest by the way.
