well, i said last year that i was going to start rating the Oscars since they were so terrible. not quite so bad this year, but there were a few goofball things that happened. i LOVE the fact that they chose Jon Stewart as the host. i guess they realized that Chris Rock was a bad choice and that they aren't going to bring the youngsters to the TV no matter what they do. ...unless you have another all ages movie in the running like LOTR or Titanic (1998).
i was pretty happy with the results overall, but disappointed by the wins of Crash (2004) for Best Picture and "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" for Best Song. we really wanted Brokeback and Dolly Parton's song to win for those two categories. so i'll say it's those two that threw my total off for this year. i ended up getting 3/4 right again this year, or 16/24 correct. not too bad. maybe next year will be more predictable.
and maybe next year Natalie Portman or some of our other favorite stars will be up instead of the sort of mediocre interest level stars of this year. i'd like to see another big year where tons of people are watching the Oscars instead of just those who are really interested in movies.
