Beyond the Da Vinci Code (2004)

i heard a few months ago about the new movie version of The Da Vinci Code which is scheduled to come out in May of next year. it sounds like a potentially awesome movie, so i thought it was about time that i got around to reading the book. since just about everyone and his brother has read this book, i guess it was a long time coming for me. actually i did talk to one other friend who had not read the book yet either. anyway, i wanted to hear about some of the facts hidden within the fiction, so who better to do a documentary on this than the History channel?

well, probably most anyone. this documentary was rather substandard. Jill and i found it to be incredibly repetitive. i think they told us the same thing about 5 times throughout the film. it was very disappointing. i wanted more. i wanted critical analysis of the paintings, inside views of Temple Church, the Swiss bank from the book (assuming that's real), the Louvre and La Pyramide Inversée by I.M. Pei.

there are a few other critical documentaries dealing with this novel available, so we might have to check out another one of those in the near future. this one really didn't cut it.

anyway, so the book was awesome i thought. very exciting, i loved the characters, and i can't wait to see it as a film. my only hope is that it will be close to or longer than 3 hours so that we don't lose much of the original story.

have you heard about this? there are quite a few splendid people starring in and working behind the scenes of The Da Vinci Code (2006). Ron Howard will be directing Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou (from Amélie (2001)), Jean Reno (from Léon (1994)), and Ian McKellen. i can't wait.
