Operation Petticoat (1959)

mom recommended this one a month or so ago, so Jill and i sat down to watch it. i knew about Tony Curtis and Cary Grant being in the movie and the whole thing with the submarine being pink, but i don't think i had ever watched it from start to finish before. if i do, i don't remember it. that's kind of how this movie is. it's fun and funny at times, but it doesn't really stand out a whole lot. it's decent, but not the funniest thing you've ever seen.

it's about a submarine captain in WWII who is having all sorts of supply problems and ends up finding an officer who can answer all of his needs, albeit by using underhanded methods. they also end up with four very attractive female navy officers on the ship which leads to all sorts of awkward situations for everyone onboard.

there was one very awkward scene in this film that stood out to Jill and i. this was where Tony Curtis's character starts "making the moves" on one of the female officers. he treats her like she's an idiot, sort of forces himself in her face, and they end up kissing. it just seems wrong by today's standards i guess, but i'd definitely say that relationships between men and women were different in the late 50s.

so it's an interesting movie, funny in a few parts, and it has a lot of color to it. ...social and otherwise.
