Team America: World Police (2004)

i had been wanting to see this when it came out last year, but never found an opportunity to go. many people don't like the South Park shows and think they're over the top...which they really are. this movie was made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who made South Park and a few other random movies.

Team America is about a group of American commandos who recruit a new member, Gary...who is a prettyboy actor, into their ranks. the team works to ensure global stability by fighting terrorism, and destroying numerous famous landmarks along the way. the movie has a great soundtrack including such songs as "Freedom Isn't Free", "I Miss You and Pearl Harbor Sucked", "Everyone has AIDS", and "America, Fuck Yeah!"

if you're not familiar with it, this movie contains marionettes. there are no human actors in the film. and i was really amazed by what they were able to do with the marionettes. they also make a lot of fun of the fact that the actors are marionettes. there's one scene where there is a fight between the martial artist on Team America and a terrorist. they both jump into the air and then basically flop against each other with arms and legs going everywhere. it was great.

there are lots of really funny bits in this. of course i don't think most of them were shown in the theater R-rated version, so you could really only get the full experience if you were watching the uncensored/unrated version like Jill and i did. i revelled in the marionette sex as well as the repeated vomiting of Gary after he gets drunk and is down to his last bit of steam. he vomits so so many times, and just when you think he's about to stop, he does it again. and sad, powerful music pounds in the background. he eventually collapses in a pool of vomit probably about 20'x 20'.

i think Jill was a little grossed out by the movie, but she laughed at parts of it. so i guess if you don't enjoy South Park and/or very gross things, then don't watch this. if you do enjoy that stuff, i know you'll love it.
