All the President's Men (1976)

oooh, i hate the "snap case." if you'll look at the cover image for this film that is featured to the right, you'll notice the case that i'm talking about. it's really crappy and made out of cardboard and plastic and starts looking like crap really easily. i do not own any dvds that come in this case. it sucks and i refuse to purchase them. some quite good movies such as The Matrix (1999) and North by Northwest (1959) come in this case. i don't own them specifically because of this flaw.

ok anyway, on to All the President's Men. i had had this one on my list for quite a while. i guess i just kept seeing the title come up and i was familiar with the fact that it had Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in it and that they were reporters. not exactly my cup of tea, the whole hard-nosed reporting bit, but we went ahead and watched it when it finally arrived in the mail.

what is this about? Watergate. the scandal that brought about the fall of President Nixon and, more specifically, the plight of the two reporters at the Washington Post newspaper as they dig and dig for two hours (movie time) trying to find out exactly what happened and how deep the story goes.

i guess we enjoyed this about as much as we could. there weren't any major flaws or anything. it's a good story and an interesting one. there are also a couple of great scenes from Robert Redford. i loved the scene where he's talking on the phone to an unexpected source and accidentally calls him by the wrong name. there's also a great shot of the two reporters typing furiously in the background as a television sits in the foreground and shows Nixon being re-elected a President.
