Coneheads (1993)

i can't remember if my mom was agreeing with me in saying that Jill should have seen this movie by now. i guess not everyone grew up with Saturday Night Live though, and if you didn't, you probably didn't think much of Coneheads when it came out. anyway, i think this movie is cute and funny, so we watched it again.

the Coneheads are aliens and they crash land on Earth and try to make a life for themselves. of course they run into all sorts of problems, not knowing how to act around humans, and looking all weird with the big freakish cone head. they also have a daughter, Connie Conehead, who grows up among the humans and gives them trouble, acting like a normal human teenager. as if that weren't enough to deal with, the U.S. government keeps coming after them for being illegal aliens. ironic, stupid, but funny.

i probably saw this when it first came out and i was 13 years old. it was funny then and it's funny now. i always think of this movie whenever i hear the 80s song "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. they sing it at 2 different parts of the film, and Beldar sings it himself when he's gnarfling the garthug (sp?).
