Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)

i think Jill and i had been interested in seeing this film since it came out at the theater, but we assumed it would be something better watched as a rental and not at the theater for $15. we were right about that.

Dodgeball obviously contains the game dodgeball and is about one workout gym, Average Joe's, trying to get the better of the insane Globogym Purple Cobras. get the joke? Joes vs. Cobras? it's a reference to the G.I. Joe cartoons of the 80s. yeah, so the Joes are terrible and have to work at getting better so they can beat the Cobras and hang on to their gym with the cash winnings. it's not super complicated but it's somewhat funny.

this movie makes me want to go out and play some dodgeball. it's an underrated game i think. it shouldn't just be for kids. now trying to get a group of 12 adults to play it with you may not exactly be that easy. apparently when the film was released there were quite a few dodgeball tournaments going on and new dodgeball teams sprouting. who can blame the people? it's a fun game.

if you watch the film, be sure to stay tuned in until after the credits. Ben Stiller's character is shown in an enormous fat suit and does an "interesting" dance to the notorious Milkshake song. there's also a really good punk/rock song at the end by a band i had never heard of before called the Bleacher Heroes. apparently their album doesn't get released until February. i'll be watching for it.
