Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

keith and i were talking about this the other day at The Marriage of Figaro so it was sort of on my mind. when Jill and i were looking for something to watch at the office, she turned to the page with "B's" on it and i kept staring at it. so this is what we ended up watching. good choice since neither of us had seen it in a while and i had forgotten much of what happens.

this movie is about a young British woman who is looking for the right man. she's not really sure whether she's after the perfect man or just a sexual fantasy man, so she ends up falling for Hugh Grant who is just a jerk in the film. she tries to avoid seeing Colin Firth, but keeps running into him and he reveals that he really likes her even though she acts like a complete idiot all of the time in front of him. Bridget gets herself into a lot of embarrassing situations and into a lot of trouble, but she eventually comes out on top.

well, i was thankful that the character named Mark in this film was actually the nicer of the two male leads. and then his girlfriend was named Natasha, which I thought was funny since one of my cats is named Natasha. just the sort of goofy thing that I like to make fun of myself with.

this movie's really great. it definitely has the most comedic fight scene of any film that i've ever seen. it's what you might call "realistic" fighting. ...meaning that when Hugh Grant and Colin Firth go at it in the street they are both fighting very poorly, but with a lot of gusto. hilarious stuff.

this movie also has a great talent about it that makes you laugh at yourself. it's really easy to identify with Bridget and recognize that we all do really stupid things from time to time, but that doesn't mean that we're useless or bad people. am i talking nonsense? i have a cold right now.
