Sense and Sensibility (1995)

i've seen this a ton of times before and i kind of wanted to watch it just so that it would actually be on my diary for when i'm looking back in the future and wondering what i thought of it. this is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time and i don't think i'll ever get tired of seeing it. every element of this film is well done and i'm amazed that it didn't win Best Picture when it was released (although it was nominated).

the film is about a family of ladies living in England in an age that focused way too much on property and the income of a lady before marriage and/or love was possible. Emma Thompson finds that she is in love with Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet scorns the love of Alan Rickman as she pursues a love with a less than desirable man. the fact that they have very little money to their names is partially their downfall and partially their salvation. it's much more complicated than this, but that will have to suffice i suppose.

if you ever feel like crying, this one will help you out with that. it always does me. it's a very emotional movie and i can't think of one that is more justifiably so. so i guess i felt the need for that last night.

i think any time i rate something as a 10/10 i always end up with very little to say other than the fact that it's perfect, so i'm going to try harder today.

i was trying to explain to David why i would call this a "girl's movie" but not a "girlie movie." it's not present day for one thing, so most young girls are not going to like it. it's more of a grown up smart girl's movie i think. obviously guys can fall in love with this film just as easily as girls can, but i don't know a single other guy that considers this one of his favorite films. i've never even talked to a guy about this movie if that says anything...not that i'm hiding my love for the film at all.

ok, i'm spent. David keeps distracting me by talking about the things he's learning in his law classes so i'm trying to confuse him by talking about the DOM and JavaScript. i'm going to go read instead of writing.
