Fatal Attraction (1987)

i never actually realized that this movie was nominated for Best Picture. anyway i was trying to come up with things to see when Keith and i were at the downtown library over the weekend. this one sprang to mind as something that i had been thinking about lately. actually, this movie was nominated for quite a few Oscars. that doesn't often happen for thrillers.

i think it's obvious to most of us what this movie is about, but i'll explain anyway. Michael Douglas is a happy family man who works as a NYC lawyer. then he meets Glenn Close who comes on to him like nobody's business. they have a steamy affair that lasts a weekend, and then when he tries to back off a little bit and start trying to get back to his own life and his work, she won't leave him alone. she flips out and tries to kill herself. then she starts stalking him and doing subtle things to try to screw up his marriage. when that doesn't work, things start to get violent.

this is definitely an entertaining film and the acting in it is very good. it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. that's a difficult level to maintain, but this film does it perfectly. the child sort of bothered me a bit, especially in the fact that it was supposed to be a little girl, but looked significantly like a little boy. i also will always be unable to see Glenn Close as a sex symbol. i can see why other actresses were asked to take the role before she was. she does do a very good job in the acting though and she's definitely scary enough to be convincing. it's a well-made film and i wouldn't mind watching it again at some point.
