Love Actually (2003)

we've actually have been watching quite a few other movies lately, but i haven't had tons of spare time to be writing entries with all of the turkey, visits to the mountains, planning vacations, etc. missed entries include Say Anything... (1989), Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979), and Stacey's very own cabaret entitled Part of Our World. anyway, yes so this is the much anticipated Christmas love flick Love Actually. we had to see it. Keith was cool enough to join...while wearing his weirdo gloves.

Love Actually is the newest ensemble cast romantic comedy from the same people who gave us Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Notting Hill (1999), and Bridget Jones's Diary (2001). moreso than any of those films mentioned, it is very episodic and only loosely ties together the fates of the sets of characters involved. it's sort of reminiscent of the connections between characters in Pulp Fiction (1994). it's an interesting idea for a film. there are many different types of love displayed through the characters, budding relationships, dying ones, unrequited love, illicit affairs, etc.

what was my favorite relationship portrayed in the film? probably the keira knightly relationship with the guy that loved her even though she had just married his best friend. i really identified with the male character, having had a lot of unrequited interests like that when i was younger. it's such a beautiful but painful feeling at the same time.

both Stacey and I were really looking forward to seeing Rowan Atkinson since we both LOVE seeing him and everything he does. unfortunately his part in this film was not spectacular. he didn't really get to show off his stuff to a great extent. man, that reminds me that I need to see Johnny English (2003) actually.

i also like how some of the relationships in this film didn't really develop or go anywhere. some of them made progress, but a few of them were just left hanging at the end of the film. anything original like this is helping us to redefine the way we can tell stories, and innovation is often a useful addition to film.
