Ice Age (2002)

i think this was another one of those fun family movies that got talked about last year just because everyone's lately been on a huge animated film kick. at least any time near Christmas anyway. it's a pretty good movie i guess, but the formula for these is starting to get stale for me. it's still fun, but i'd definitely like to see some more originality. i guess it's hard with all of the money that it requires to create one of these. apparently this was originally created to be completely a drama, but Fox forced the creators to make it a children's movie. oh well. such is life.

Ice Age follows a wooly mammoth and a sloth as they find a human baby and decid that they must track down his human tribe in order to return him to them. along the way they meet a sabertooth tiger who helps them, but of course has ulterior motives. i could explain the rest of the plot to you, but i'm sure you can sense what happens. like i said it's formulaic. not that it's not fun, but still...

one of the more enjoyable scenes of the film for me was the dodo scene where they run across a huge flock of flightless dodo birds that are preparing for the oncoming ice age. it turns into a sort of football game where the football is a watermelon (needed for feeding the baby as well as for the survival of the idiotic dodos). throughout the scene dodos are getting killed left and right. falling off cliffs, falling into lava pits, etc. it was pretty funny for a kids film i guess. this would be a good date movie i would think. as long as you're dating the right sort of girl that is. damn i need to go out.
