To Catch a Thief (1955)
*Second Review

so Ananda came over last night and wanted to watch something that was classic. she's a very big fan of Alfred Hitchcock too and couldn't remember if she had seen this one or not. the only ones i could think of that she said she hadn't seen were Marnie (1964), Rope (1948), and The Trouble With Harry (1955). but she's even seen both versions of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934, 1956). that's pretty respectable.

well i don't have tons new to add to my previous description of this film (available here). i think this is not a completely enthralling film, but it's still something that i love to watch. it doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat as such, but you're constantly entertained.

as we watched it this time, Ananda quickly realized that she had in fact seen this one, but she couldn't remember all of it. we then proceeded to spend the rest of the time making fun of Edith Head's terrible costume choices throughout the film. i really hate the black and white striped long-sleeve shirt that Cary Grant wears for the first half of the film. and what is up with the red and white polka dot scarf that he wears around his neck? usually Edith Head does an excellent job, but there was some weirdo stuff going on in this one.

and we also talked incessantly about the bad dubbing of some of the French-accented characters and how insanely tan Cary Grant and Grace Kelly are in this film as compared to their usual selves. i guess that's to be expected though if they're on the French Riviera.

but don't get me wrong, i actually really love this movie. and not just because it has Grace Kelly in it. i recently even bought it on dvd at Best Buy. it's a very well made film. i think it's just a groove that we're into right now...tearing things apart for fun.

oh, and i just posted my review of Bruce Almighty (2003), so don't forget to hit "previous movie" below.
