Repo Man (1984)

well i saw this one last week on the Entertainment Weekly list of the top 10 cult films of all time. obviously, most cult films are terrible in at least some way or another, but some people consider them brilliant. that's how they get a cult following. i will not be joining the cult of Repo Man any time soon.

the movie is about a young punk who is wasting his life doing nothing that one day gets caught up with the local team of thiefs who work as car repossessors. he quickly takes a liking to the job. there is also a scientist in this film with a stolen alien in his trunk that vaporizes whoever dares to open the trunk. and everyone is after the Chevy Malibu that he's driving (but few know why other than the reward). there are government agents, punk robbers, latin street thugs, UFO cultists, and the repo men. the movie drags on and wastes your time.

this movie is only slightly comedic just because it's so bad. i wouldn't say i liked the film, but i didn't completely hate it. i can see why it has a following. the special effects are as terrible as the story. and it seems as though everyone involved (maybe with the exception of Harry Dean Stanton) realized just how bad and dumb this film would be. just because they realized that they were making a bad movie on purpose though, doesn't mean that it was worth making.
