Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959)

well i figured that it was time that i actually went out and saw what is most commonly referred to as "the worst film ever made." this is yet another of the many famous films on the bottom 100 of the IMDb. these are the films that have the 100 worst ratings overall by the audience of the website. this one is currently number 66. it also apparently at one point won something called the Golden Turkey Award which gave it the official title of Worst Film of All Time. it's also directed by Ed Wood who has often been dubbed the worst director of all time.

it's about space aliens (who seem to just be humans from another planet) who come to Earth in order to convince the Earth people to believe in them. they're also trying to stop Earth from destroying the universe with a new type of light explosion bomb that they will soon discover how to create. if earth were to figure out how to actually explode sunlight, that would mean doom for the rest of the universe. so yeah, these alien people come to earth in 3 spaceships and start bringing a few weird looking people back from the dead in a certain Hollywood cemetary. they actually only end up bringing 3 people back from the dead though.

does this sound like a complete crap plot? yeah, that's what i've been trying to tell you. not only is the script complete junk, the acting is terrible for the most part too. i'm guessing most of these people had never acted before in their lives. the words were coming out of their mouths, but they didn't speak as though they completely understood what they were saying and the emotion that surrounded the words was completely incorrect. and then there are the special effects. childrens spaceship toys on fishing line, terrible pyrotechnics that don't look at all dangerous or even well thought out, ray guns that don't shoot anything and just make a buzzing sound. this film is pretty damn terrible overall. still, it's pretty funny though how completely bad it is. and i think that's why it has the lasting appeal.
