Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989)

this is the second movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series that i had checked out for this past week. i think i enjoyed this one a bit better primarily because of the actors involved in this one. and a lot less of the "animals." i think the talking animals are a great addition to the story, but for the most part they hurt the BBC version just because they are recreated so poorly.

this film actually has two completely different stories in it. in the first story, the four children are called back to Narnia to help a young prince defend himself against the evil king who murdered his father and wishes to murder him as well. in the second story, Edmund and Lucy are whisked off to the ship of the now adult Prince Caspian as he searches for seven lost lords of Narnia on the seas and various magical islands.

so i actually accidentally watched the second story of this first. it's a 2 VHS tape box, so i put in the one that came out first without looking at it. it seemed like a bit of an odd beginning to the film, but it had the intro and everything with it so i assumed that it must just start out that way and i accepted it. only when i was ready to put in the second tape did i understand what had happened. it all still made sense to me though, so i don't think it really hurt my viewing of it.

the best thing i have to say about this second film: Warwick Davis. he's not in enough movies. a great small actor that you usually only end up seeing in fantasy films for some reason.

also i'm enjoying the fact that Aslan basically becomes a god in the latter stories. it makes sense, i mean if he's going to be Christ in the first of the series, his power needs to grow or at least be more evident as time progresses. very cool story. i'll be watching the final film this coming week.
