Wonder Boys (2000)

this is interesting. i'm at work right now writing a movie review on a movie that i've just finished watching...while at work. well, needless to say my new media center job isn't overly active on the weekends. i'm just in subbing today for someone who had to be out, but there just isn't much going on here on the weekends. other than the odd dirty middle-aged man who will come in and asked to see Full Metal Jacket (1987). so i decided to sit here and watch Wonder Boys for my second time.

it's been probably a year since i first saw it. it's a mildly funny movie, but it's just very enthrawling for some reason. you can't stop watching it. it sort of reminds me of the end of a party. everyone's going home, it's the end, and there's this feeling of looking back on everything with just slight happiness, but mostly a sort of glaze that you can't see through. well, that's what i imagine parties to be like anyway. as if i ever actually went to any. actually...i don't usually care for parties that much. my argument is crap.

Wonder Boys stars Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Frances McDormand, and Robert Downey Jr. Michael Douglas is a literature professor that is working on his second novel. he is basically just continuing to work on it because he doesn't know how to stop. he doesn't even know what he's writing about. but this movie follows him around for a couple of days in some strange escapades involving one of his more promising yet odd students, played by Tobey Maguire. during their time together they shoot a blind dog, steal the school chancellor's most prized possession (a jacket owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe), take all sorts of drugs, get involved in stealing a car, throw a party, etc. lots of stuff happens. it's not really a movie with any drastic events or hard plot lines, but it's still good.

i'm spent. watch for another entry later this evening.
