My Left Foot (1989)

the second day of the marathon continues. and the last film of 2002 for me is...My Left Foot. this is the one that Daniel Day-Lewis won his Academy Award for. and it really is an amazing performance. i can't really think of another actor that could have even come close to being able to do this.

the film is a true story about the early years of a young Irishman named Christy Brown who was born with cerebral palsy. the only limb he could completely control was his left leg, with which he learned to paint and write. the film is actually based on an autobiography that was written by Brown himself. it's about his struggle growing up as part of a poor family, and also his struggle dealing with people treating him so differently from everyone else.

like i said, awesome performance from Daniel Day-Lewis. and that's the biggest part of the movie. yeah, the story's pretty good, but it's been done before. nothing life changing about it. as far as visual effects, costuming, etc. this film really isn't about all that. so it's a good movie and you'll enjoy it if you watch it, but the focal point is really the performances in it.
