Laura (1944)

before beginning a long day of helping people find dns servers that worked, resetting the firmware of their modems, and fixing oh so many error 650s and 691s, I was sitting in the living room watching Laura. this is another pull from the IMDb top 250 list. i wasn't sure about it at first, but the acting in it was really good for the most part. plus the awesome cinematography won an Oscar...which it very clearly deserved.

one interesting note is that this film stars Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. now you'd think that the former would be a woman and the latter would be a man. but you'd be wrong.

but Dana Andrews is an awesome actor. another film you'd see him in if you were so inclined would be The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). that film also stars another of my favorites...the wonderous Teresa Wright. (while looking for that image, i've decided that i now have to see The Pride of the Yankees (1942). i think my friend David had recommended that anyway.) Dana Andrews is able to show such a small amount of emotion with his police detective character, but so much emotion at the same time. great work. and then Clifton Webb as Waldo Lydecker is flawless. you should watch this movie just to see him. this is some awesome film noir. it would definitely have to go into my top 5 movies in the film noir genre.

the story of the film revolves around the death of Laura, who everyone falls in love with. she's dead and Lieutenant McPherson is investigating. he questions everyone who she's been involved with lately. everyone's a suspect in this film it seems, but at the same time you never really feel like any of the characters were capable of doing it, since they all love Laura so intensely. i really can't say more without giving away too much. and since i think everyone should see this just to see what film noir is capable of being, i'll say no more.

so check out Laura. i think there's something in it for everyone. and i'll be back tomorrow, making hopefully some major plans/changes to the diary. since i have a glorious 2 days off from work finally.

in another note i currently have 411 recorded votes for movies on the IMDb. oh, i've seen too many movies i think. and those are just the ones i've gone there to vote on.
