L.A. Confidential (1997)

this is another one i saw on the IMDb list that i felt like i needed to see a second time because i had mostly forgotten what happened. easy to believe. this is one complicated plot. anyway, it's number 38 on the list right now. nominated for 9 Oscars and it won 2 of those. Kim Basinger got an Oscar? i can't believe it. i really don't remember that happening. and she's really not that great of an actress in general. she was pretty good in this, but i don't know about the whole Oscar thing being justified.

weird. i didn't even think about this. Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are both Australian. cool. my favorite foreign country. wonderful cast for this movie. it also has Kevin Spacey in it. doesn't get much better than that.

it's a sort of 1950s crime drama mostly about a corrupt police department in Los Angeles. it focuses on 3 very different police officers, each with very heavy personal flaws, and how they all come to realize that they need to rid the police force of the corrupt forces that seem to be destroying it from the inside.

i know that i did enjoy this film a lot more seeing it the second time. i guess the total negativity of the plot and action keeps me from giving it a higher rating. great film though. extraordinarily well made. and wow, the final battle at the end of the film is awesome. it reminds me of the one in Legends of the Fall (1994). you need to see that movie if you have not.

i think Guy Pearce needs to get an Oscar sometime in the next couple of years here. he's amazing and needs to be recognized a.s.a.p.
