Hammett (1982)

ok i've had so many things about the author Dashiell Hammett pop up this year, i thought this would maybe be an interesting film to see. plus it's a film by Wim Wenders who has the ability to make both outstanding films and fairly terrible films. this one was pretty bad. the film was not very creative and had terrible focus.

the film is a fictional tale about the famous mystery/crime novelist Dashiell Hammett as he tries to solve a mystery that pops up in his own life while he's finishing up a novel that he's been working on. one of his friends mysteriously disappears in Chinatown and when he tries to track him down he comes upon an asian girl that everyone seems to be looking for. there's a lot of times when tension and conflicts could arise between characters in this film, but it just doesn't follow through.

so i haven't seen too many Wim Wenders films at this point, but the only two that i've been amazed by are Paris, Texas (1984) and The Million Dollar Hotel (2000). i guess i'll have to actually do some more testing to see if there are any other good films by him that exist. we shall see...
