Wait Until Dark (1967)

hmmm...my first connection with this film is pretty funny. i originally read the play. if you look for a few small details here, you'll see why.

not my favorite Natalie pic, but see, it did come in handy for something. so yeah, i read the Frederick Knott play Wait Until Dark last summer when i was reading all kinds of books associated with her. i know, i know. i must stop the insanity. but somehow i can't. or just don't want to.

so this is the film version. basically exactly like the play for all intensive purposes. starring Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin, and Richard Crenna. the story is that a doll containing drugs is supposedly located at the apartment of a blind woman. the owner of the drugs hires a couple of conmen to try and talk her into giving them the doll. eventually they become violent when they haven't been able to retrieve the doll and the young woman has to figure out how to turn her blindness into an advantage. (trying not to give away too many details.)

yeah, i enjoyed the play when i read it and since the film was so faithful, it couldn't help but be excellent. lots of thrills in the story, complications, and just generally well-written characters. and again i enjoyed Audrey Hepburn's acting very much. i wonder if i would enjoy her other films more now that i've learned how to appreciate her. i just remember thinking that My Fair Lady (1964) was intensely annoying at certain parts. actually so was Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), and i didn't even see that but a few months ago. Alan Arkin was also very amazing as Roat, the villain. i didn't know that he had that within him. the thing i remember him from most vividly is Gattaca (1997), where his character is extremely different and more mild-mannered. in that instance he's actually a detective instead of a criminal.

man, i hope i can get the librarians to figure out where the actual tape for Trois Couleurs: Rouge (1994) is tomorrow. i assume it's in the box for The Magic Flute (1975). if it's just lost somewhere i'll be more than a little upset.
