Columbo: Agenda for Murder (1990)

whew, two entries in one day yet again. i'm doing well. and i finally got around to watching this Columbo that my mom left with me. obviously it has Patrick McGoohan in it and he's one of our cherished stars that we keep our eye on. this is one of the four Columbos that Patrick was in. he won his second Emmy Award for his performance here. and it was excellent. Peter Falk (Lt. Columbo) also won an Emmy for this one.

McGoohan plays an attorney who is working on his best friend's campaign for the vice presidency of the U.S. something unfortunately comes up which endangers their chances to win, and McGoohan's character (Oscar Finch) effectively takes care of the problem. he kills the man who is threatening their position and makes it look like a suicide. Columbo spends the rest of the episode picking up the pieces and hounding Finch and his candidate friend for clues. Columbo always looks harmless and bumbling, but he keeps his ears open and is quite clever beneath the kind exterior.

this is actually my first Columbo movie to see. since you can't really check them out or rent them easily, you have to tape them when they show them on A&E i guess. due to this, i have very little previous experience with Peter Falk. i did see him in my least favorite Wim Wenders film Der Himmel ber Berlin (1987) a.k.a. Wings of Desire. interesting character in that film. he plays himself, shooting a Columbo film in Germany.

i'm really starting to get into murder mysteries i think. after reading all about No Good Deed (2002) and reading Dashiell Hammett's The House In Turk Street and then seeing the detective films i've been seeing recently i'm starting to slowly form a taste for it i think. i guess that's why old people are always watching Columbo and reading Agatha Christie. i'm getting old before my time. don't get me wrong though, i still can't wait to go see The Matrix Reloaded (2003).

interesting to see Patrick McGoohan with another American accent. in the most recent episode of Danger Man that i watched he posed as an American womanizer/public relations expert. i think he's improved his American accent over the years. it's definitely more well done here.

so many films. so little time.
