#1: Heaven (2002)

yeah, so i've been waiting for over 6 months now to see this film. but it won't be released in the U.S. until at least October. probably November. it's the newest from one of my favorite directors, Tom Tykwer. he directed Winterschlfer (1997), Lola Rennt (1998), and Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (2000). yeah i know you've only seen Lola Rennt probably, but you should see more of them. he's gifted.

it basically looks like he's vying for an Oscar, pushing the U.S. release date back so far, and so close to Oscar time. plus he chose the amazing Cate Blanchett as his lead. her love interest will be the quite versatile Giovanni Ribisi.

ok, so that's one thing i've been thinking about. why has everyone in Germany been able to see this film and i can't? well, except for my unfortunate German friend Anne who was over here on exchange during the German release and then returned to Germany after the fact. she was just as frustrated as i. probably moreso. oh well, we will both see this film someday.

#2: Paris, Je t'aime (2003?)

this is a collection of short films that is being done by various filmmakers from around the world. one of which is supposedly Tom Tykwer. well i knew my favorite lady Natalie Portman was a huge Lola Rennt fan, but i didn't expect this one. she is set to star in Tom Tykwer's portion of the film, along with the guy who played Otto in Der Krieger und die Kaiserin, (Melchior Beslon).

the story is that she's the girl next door. the male lead has a secret love for her. he goes to watch a love story at a movie theater and memorizes all the lines. he imagines himself in the film and that the beautiful actress is the girl next door that he loves. he returns home after the film and on a whim knocks on her door. he says what he said in his imagination and to his utter shock, she repeats her lines word for word. (well, something to that effect anyway.)

sounds dreamy. well i'm sure with a team like that making the film, i'll be utterly in awe of it. anyway, i just had to voice my excitement/intolerable anticipation.
