Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)

this was recommended to me as being one of the greatest Cary Grant comedies. i had never heard of it before that. i found it fairly funny but it wasn't life changing or anything. pretty good. Myrna Loy plays Mrs. Blandings and i'm always happy to see her. wonderful actress.

the story here is that Mr. Blandings gets tired of the routine living in a Manhattan apartment with his family and decides they need to move out to the Connecticut countryside and have an actual house. after the existing house is deemed unfit for living, they tear it down and start building their dream home. lots of running jokes throughout like the closet in the new house that everyone keeps getting locked inside, and Mr. Blandings keeps finding clues that Mrs. Blandings and their best friend, Bill Cole, are having an affair. even though there's no truth to it, the way Grant and Loy keep the joke going is great. so this is a great comedy i think just to see the combination between the two actors.

i couldn't help thinking about the Tom Hanks and Shelley Long film The Money Pit (1986). buying worthless property to make the dream home out of, and just endlessly spending money to accomplish the dream once you've been stupid enough to get sucked into the idea.

my admiration for Cary Grant grows daily. yes, as i've said before, he's the man.
