A Hard Day's Night (1964)

the first big Beatles movie. i'd been thinking about watching it for a while and finally got ahold of a copy from the library. i'm not a huge Beatles fan, but i've always listened to their music off and on. and i watched the big ABC series about them a few years ago.

so this movie's very short. only an hour and a half. it's supposed to be like a day in the life of the Beatles. them running around London with cops chasing them when they get into trouble, the girls going nuts over them and them always wisecracking. it is really inconsistent in nearly every respect. crazy editing, cinematography, dialogue, etc. the idea behind the film seems to be that you can't keep up with the Beatles. they're too witty and fast paced and goofy. you can't follow them. the dialogue is just insanely fast paced. but the jokes aren't extremely funny. now don't get me wrong, i love some British humor. my favorite is "Mr. Bean" the tv series. very closely related to Charlie Chaplin's work. but that's beside the point. you see what this insane film does to you? i'm all mixed up.

anyway it gets a 6/10 rating. it was ok, but i'm not in love with it. and i don't think it changed my life. it has its cute moments, but mostly it's just a trainwreck. kind of fun, but really crazy and unhinged.
