Miller's Crossing (1990)

after seeing a few Coen Brothers films recently, i decided to backtrack and go after Miller's Crossing. plus i wanted to see more of Albert Finney. you should backtrack in my diary to read about other films starring him. there are two. this movie stars Gabriel Byrne though. he plays Tom Reagan, an advisor to Albert Finney's character who is a crime boss. well it starts out that way, then he gets knocked back and forth with another up and coming crime boss played by Jon Polito. is he trying to keep the peace or is does he have some ulterior motives all along?

well i started out watching this film rather upset that i didn't know who half the people they were talking about were. don't you hate that in crime flicks when they talk about characters that you as the audience haven't even been introduced to? i eventually discovered who everyone was and it was all ok then. there are a few bits of this film that are just hilarious. pure Coen Brothers comedy. but you have to see The Big Lebowski (1998).

wow, Albert Finney kills four men with a Thompson and never flinches. that was an amazing scene. we were rolling in that one. and the scene where Sam Raimi and the cops shoot up the saloon. oh my god yes. so much violence. so much good.

the music in this film is excellent too. i love the mixed signals. playing beautiful Irish music while people are dying. i don't know how they do it. 8/10 goes here.
