Kolya (1996)

this film won Best Foreign Language Film for the Czech Republic in 1996. it was recommended by a friend and i'd been wanting to see it for a while. it's the story of a single man who does pretty well with the ladies and plays the cello at funerals as his profession. in order to get some extra cash, he agrees to a fake marriage with a Russian woman he's never met. he ends up getting stuck with her kid and has to learn to deal with being a father instead of a bachelor.

it's a good film, but it wasn't as emotionally moving as i expected it to be. i only really laughed a couple of times and i wasn't ever moved very much. it was cute, but that's about it really. i love kids in movies and the little boy who played Kolya did a great job. i guess the plot just wasn't that excellent. it'll have to be 7/10 today.

i know for sure tomorrow i'll be watching a kickass movie that i've seen before, so watch for that. what's the best screwball comedy ever....?
