The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

another day, watching movies alone at my place after work. anyway, at least i was watching this film. from a new reader and friend from makeoutclub.com, came a recommendation that i see The Last of the Mohicans. i had seen parts of it before but never the entire thing. and it was awesome. don't you wish you could be watching this film again for the first time? if you haven't yet, do so. it's directed by Michael Mann whose only other film i've seen is Heat (1995). which is another film i need to watch over and over. and Natalie's in it. why don't i own a copy?? answer...it comes in the snap case dvd. i don't buy the snap case.

but it's very much the same way i feel about Heat. this film is beautiful in many ways. the most important of which is the music. i could totally sense what was coming when i heard the awesome opening theme. this was the wilderness theme, which is associated consistently with Hawkeye, the character played by Daniel Day-Lewis. the way they intertwine that melody with British themes in order to show that he and Cora are falling in love is just perfect. and i love the two scenes where he and his Mohican family save Cora and the others. it's just pure heroism being displayed on the screen. wonderful.

so i have to give this one a 9/10. it's always a fine line between 9 and 10 for me. so there it is. i haven't seen Daniel Day-Lewis in much, but he was amazing in this role. he is extremely masculine, but still very emotive. it's hard to make women love you and not scare away male viewers with sappyness. but he does it. and Madeleine Stowe is always great. i just have to say Twelve Monkeys (1995). see it, love it.

oh, more good movies to come. and one Best Picture i'm not too sure about for this weekend. from the fourth annual Academy Awards.
