All the King's Men (1949)

i think i've decided that the Best Pictures from this era are terrible choices for Best Picture. 1949-1951 i know that i don't agree with. i'm still lacking a few around those years though, so i'll have to make my final opinion on when the "sucky years" of the Oscars begin and end at some later date. All the King's Men beat out four other movies i haven't seen, so i can't comment on whether or not it really deserved to be called the best picture of that year.

the plot surrounds Willie Stark, a small town man who has high ideals. he decides to start running for offices to get rid of corruption. eventually he himself starts to become very corrupt. the impression that i get from this film is something to the effect of "everything sucks, everyone is corrupt, there's nothing we can do about it but cry." and the plot was not very believable to me. too many intricate things that went wrong to describe here. it gets a 4/10.

i don't know. maybe 1952's The Greatest Show On Earth will be better. i don't have too high of hopes though. it's directed by Cecil B. DeMille and again stars Charlton Heston. uggghhh...
