this movie is amazing. i give it a 9/10.
Best Picture of 1945. Ray Milland seen recently in Dial M For Murder (1954) opposite my favorite, Grace Kelly. he got an Oscar for this and he was awesome. this is one of the only 26 movies directed by the great Billy Wilder. he directed such awesome pictures as The Apartment (1960), Double Indemnity (1944), and Some Like It Hot (1959).
this is the story of a man and his intense struggle with alcoholism over one weekend. the most difficult weekend of his life. no matter how much the people around him love him, no matter how much he wants to stop himself and be the great novelist that everyone knows he can easily be, the urge to drink is simply unstoppable for him.
i'm really surprised to see this film come out in the mid 40s. it's very challenging for an audience to watch and makes you very uneasy as you do so. great acting, direction, writing, it's just totally worth watching.
