The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)

yes. this film is the first in my diary to get a 10/10.

where do i start? i've been wanting to see this movie for a long time now. why did i not see it on the big screen? i really couldn't tell you. i've been a big fan of the Coen brothers since The Big Lebowski (1998). i've seen most of their movies since then and i love them all. their writing is exquisite.

and they ALWAYS use Roger Deakins. he is my god. he is the best cinematographer alive today, and should've won the Oscar for this movie. why did LOTR get it? i don't know.

beautiful acting. Billy Bob Thornton was great. and they even found a spot for Scarlett Johansson (who i also worship) as Birdy, the nice girl who plays poignant Beethoven sonatas for Ed.

black and white. perfect.

Ed Crane, the lead character had a lot of similarities to the protagonist of The Stranger. read the book if you get the chance. the writing and basic story here were just awesome. flawless movie.
