Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1964)

a.k.a. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. a wonderful French film whose dialogue is entirely sung. it's the story of a young girl whose mother owns a small shop called The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and the young man she loves. her mother doesn't agree with Genevive and Guy getting married because she is too young and he is not wealthy enough. so when Guy is called off to war for 2 years, they are separated. and then Genevive finds out that she's pregnant. her mother wants her to marry a young jewel dealer and trouble ensues.

ok, so maybe only Hollywood American musicals are bad. i don't know. yesterday was excellent as was today. i'm giving this movie a 9/10. i love that the entire thing is singing. it makes it a lot more pure. the color was great. i'm really starting to enjoy the 60s now that my mom has gotten me watching old tv shows starring Patrick McGoohan like "Danger Man" and "The Prisoner." the ending was awesome too. this film was not at all predictable and i liked that. this movie has a hefty allowance of magic. and that's why it gets a 9.
