The Usual Suspects (1995)

i had seen it before and got very annoyed by some outside circumstances while attempting to watch the movie. basically i couldn't hear half of it. this time after watching the film i still felt cheated somehow. i always hear people say that about movies and i don't think i've really understood it until now. it's like you were following the action and were expected to get some revelation at the end, but it just didn't come. they just didn't make me believe that Keyser Soze was threatening enough, or powerful enough. so i didn't really care who he turned out to be. i think the movie moves too fast and doesn't establish its characters enough for me to give it a great rating.

the editing and the score (both done by the same man-John Ottman) were simply superb in this though. the mise-en-scene was beautiful. most of the actors did an excellent job. great job constructing a feeling of suspense. for those, i give it a 7/10. good, but i won't ever love it. no matter how many times i convince myself to take a second look at it.
