Marty (1955)

really good writing in this movie. and Ernest Borgnine was great. this movie won Best Picture of 1955 beating out 4 other films you've probably never heard of. i mean after having seen Quiz Show (1994) last night it was obvious that this was the next Best Picture to watch. They make constant reference to a question Herb was asked on the quiz show about Best Picture for 1955. He answered On The Waterfront (1954), which was a Best Picture, but from the previous year. so i therefore watched Marty. obviously i've seen On The Waterfront numerous times. that's a great film too.

Marty is the story of a man who is a self-proclaimed "dog." in the beauty sense. he's a very caring man, but can't seem to find a lady to love. he's had a lot of heartache and few breaks. then once he finds a girl he likes, everyone gives him hell for not wanting to be a stable, boring bachelor anymore.

i give it a 7/10. it was a very short film and the supporting cast was a little weak, but like i say the writing and Borgnine were great. they did some really interesting things with conversations in this film, like they'll hang back and let the audience listen to a conversation between two old ladies and it has little to do with the plot. just because they're telling an interesting story. like something one might do in everyday life.
